One of my interests is Modern Art. On a recent trip to San
Francisco, I visited the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), and
enjoyed visiting it. Although I enjoyed seeing all the exhibits, my favorite
ones included some well-known paintings by famous artists such as Diego Rivera,
Andy Warhol, Piet Mondrian, Robert Indiana and Alexander Calder.
One of my favorite paintings is the Composition with Red,
Blue, and Yellow. The style of this Mondrian painting reminds me of that of
a 1960s shift dress which itself copied the Mondrian style.
Another painting that I enjoyed was the LOVE portrait
by Robert Indiana. This reminds me of one of my favorite Beatles songs, “All
You Need Is Love”. There was even a sculpture of the same painting standing
outside in the dark, gloomy weather.
Andy Warhol’s portrait of Jackie Kennedy captures her sorrowness
on the fateful day of November 22nd, 1963. It shows the reversed timeline
of events, with the last picture showing her with a smile on her face.
The Alexander Calder sculptures remind me of a crib mobile with
much more stunning designs and colors.
Finally, but not least, the Diego Rivera mural, located on
the ground floor, is one of the rarest finds that you would ever notice. This painting,
known as Pan American Unity, depicts the sufferings of the Mexican-American
laborers in California, which would eventually lead to the National Farm Workers
Movement started by Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta. The most amusing part of
this painting is the life sized painting of his wife, artist Frieda Kahlo.
Overall, my interest in Modern Art was sated by my visit
there. Next, I hope to see the original MOMA in New York City!
